Neighbors Call of a Suspicious Person
Leads to Arrest for Burglary and Recovered Stolen Property
A resident in the 3900 block of Bayshore Road observed a suspicious person and called police. That call led to the arrest of a burglary suspect and the recovery of property that was stolen from the burglary. The recovery of the property happened before the victim could notify police that the burglary had occurred. This case is an example of how public safety can be enhanced by collaboration between the citizens and the police.
At approximately 3:15 p.m. on March 25th a resident in the 3900 block of Bayshore Road reported that he had chased a prowler from his property. The resident observed a man walking around his home and looking into his back yard. When the resident’s dog started barking the subject left the back yard. The resident confronted the suspicious person at which time the suspicious male ran east on 40th Street.
The resident reported the incident including a description of the suspect and that the suspect was wearing a black t-shirt with “FBI” printed on the back of the shirt.
Officers checking the area located an individual matching the description wearing a black FBI t-shirt. Officer Rossnagle observed the suspect in front of the Cadillac Motel (approximately ½ mile from the original call). The suspect fled through the motel and jumped a fence. Officer Rossnagle caught the subject in a parking lot north of the motel. The fleeing suspect was identified as Dominic Salvatori (12/26/1989). Salvatori stated,” I’ve been screwing up bad. I’m on drugs. I’ve been hitting it hard for three straight days.
Dispatch informed officers that a burglary had just been reported in the 700 block of 40th Street (1/2 block from where the neighbor had observed the suspicious person). The victim of that burglary was transported to the arrest location where she identified items that Salvatori had in his possession as items stolen during the burglary.
The neighbor who observed a suspicious person in his yard was transported to the location of the arrest and positively identified Salvatori as the prowler he had observed on his property.
Dominic Salvatori was arrested for Burglary, Loitering and Prowling, Possession of Burglary tools, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. This is Dominic Salvatori’s 4th arrest for Burglary. Detectives are investigating other burglaries that Domenic Salvatori may be involved in. Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to contact Detective Laster at 941-364-7327.
